What is the best thing about the canals?

So I asked the wisdom of Twitter and got some great replies:

What is the BEST thing about the canals? Need help for an article: opinions please! #Boatsthattweet please RT @BWcomms

Escape from everyday hustle & bustle

Passing peops, boaters & gongoozlers both - only ever met two grumpies in three years cont.cruising & living on :)

Being away from it all (cliche, but true) + peace. Seeing towns & cities from a completely different angle & approach.

The best thing is being able to untie, and sail away for however long you need to!

I used to take my boat to Sainsbury's, moor outside do the shopping and then cruise back, it took half a day, great way to shop!

Mooring at a peaceful in the middle of nowhere location.

The variety of all life that uses the waterways

Fresh air and freedom!

Views, voles, boats and birds

Getting away from the rat race in the English Countryside

They allow you to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Being woken up by the quack of a friendly duck instead of a loud clock or radio.

I didn't expect to get such a great response, and ended up writing my blog post before reading most of these.

Visit the Canal Voyagers blog tomorrow to see my finished article!
